My camping experience in the Galtee Mountains

If you are looking for a blog about camping in Ireland or even some advise about camping you are in the right place. I will tell you about one of my favorite camping trips in this blog.

About 8 months ago I went on a camping trip to the Galtee Mountains. I had planned the trip for over a week before leaving to go. It is very important to do a proper plan before going on a trip just incase you get in any trouble. When you go on a trip make sure you tell some where you are going so if you don't come back they can call mountain rescue. Hopefully that will never to happen to anyone. However, it is always better to plan for the worsted and hope for the best than get caught in a situation like that.

The trip lasted 3 days and 2 night. I arrived at around 3 pm and had a one and a half hour walk to the planned location to set up camp. The first location was very nice and next to a lovely little wood bridge and river. I think it goes without saying to camp next to a water source, but if you drink form it make sure you boil it for 30 seconds at a high boil.

On the second day I woke up and began walking at around 9:30am after making breakfast and packing the tent back up. I waked off the beaten path for the majority of the day. I hiked for the first hour up to the top of the valley I was camping in. Then I took five minutes breaks before hiking along an old stone wall at the top of the valley. This took me to the highest mountain in the Galtee mountain range, Galtymore, this took another hour and a bit. After cresting the hill I went down the opposite side of the mountain into another valley once I was covered from the wind I made lunch. I hiked into the valley and found a camping spot after a bit of effort because the hole area was covered in heather. At this location I saw a wild fox hunting. I set up camp and made some more food at dinner time.

The final days hike was quite short as I only have to fined the road I had parked on. This was quite easy as it was not to far. Once on the road I could really pick up the pace and I soon made it back to the car and could get home.
